Here's the history of the Dragsicals™. And some insight into the overall insanity an creativity of all those involved. San Francisco has a vibrant underground queer arts community....
Suppositori Spelling ("Spaz") a.ka. Jarrad Webster created a dynamic show titled Hannibal the Cannibal the Musical (she's fond of alliterative titles) which was a lip-synced musical parody of The Silence of the Lambs. It premiered in London...[X]. Spaz restaged her show at Trannyshack®, and then again at her own club, Cocktailgate, starring herself as Buffalotori Spelling, Trixxie Carr as Clarice Starlett and Raya Light as Trannibal Lecter. Drama bin Laden ("Drama") a.k.a. Jason Hannan was in the crowd that night and was so entertained and inspired by the uniqueness of the medium, that he approached her immediately after the show to ask about the next project.
A creative partnership was born and within months they were in production for their first collaboration, Heathers: The Dragsical™. It cost them $68 to produce (because of resourcefulness and the economic crisis), and 280 people came to the Stud at midnight on a Tuesday. We stole the lunchtray props for the show from a corporate taco chain restaurant.
In 2012, it was time to expand the productions... Jason slept in an Occupy SF tent in the encampment at the Embarcadero.
