My all time favorite painter in all of the world is John Singer Sargent. I only hope to develop to even a fraction of his skill. Seeing his Portrait of Madame X in the Metropolitan, New York stole my breath. His La Carmencita at the Musée d'Or
My all time favorite painter in all of the world is John Singer Sargent. I only hope to develop to even a fraction of his skill. Seeing his Portrait of Madame X in the Metropolitan, New York stole my breath. His La Carmencita at the Musée d'Orsay, Paris almost made me fall to my knees. The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston had so many of his works, I was reeling from joy. Dizzied. I know this disclosure makes me look odd, exposing my quirk. This one is titled Man Wearing Laurels & it's at the LACMA. I must see it. I can't tell if he painted the eyes to be pronounced & smoked them out or they were always faint. Hope to get close & admire it. Photos or gift shop postcards don't answer this. Nor does the internet. Having spent 1 month out of the year in LA for 14 years, so why hadn't I? I have tried to go or thought to. Once the wing with the painting was closed. Then a good friend & myself were near the La Brea Tar Pits & he wasn't in museum mood. Another time my friend who accompanied me on the way fell ill & we turned back. So, on my next LA excursion, I will make it my first stop. Solo. End scene. 🎬🛀 This painter. WoW, right?
